Aerohive launches 802.11n products

Aerohive is now shipping a line of 802.11n access points under their 300 series models.  The HiveAP 300 Series 802.11n Cooperative Control Access Points provide high performance dual concurrent (2.4 & 5 GHz) 802.11n (3x3) MIMO as well as dual 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports. Dual Ethernet ports allow the access points to use link aggregation to double performance or ensure reliability with redundant links.

A new feature available with the 300 series Access Points includes Dynamic Airtime Scheduling.  This feature dramatically improves wireless LAN performance by measuring each client's instantaneous data rate and airtime use and scheduling airtime based on IT-specified policies. It can be used to ensure that fast clients, such as 802.11n clients, aren't slowed down by lower-speed clients, and it can enforce IT-specified policies to ensure that critical applications and users receive adequate airtime.

New Juniper small office / branch office security appliances now shipping

The new Juniper SSG 5 and SSG 20 security appliances are now shipping.  These new models offer a new level of performance, security and wide-area network integration based on the experience of NetScreen security and VPN technology and Juniper's core routing competency.  Key aspects of these new appliances are enhanced Unified Threat Management (UTM) capability, integrated routing, dial backup (V.92 analog and ISDN BRI) and new WAN interface modules on the SSG 20.  A wireless version of both the SSG 5 and SSG 20 is also available.

The SSG 20 offers one of the industry's first true integrated routing and security platforms in the small office / branch office marketplace.  With five 10/100 Fast Ethernet interfaces and two Physical Interface Module (PIM) slots the SSG 20 can connect directly to T1, E1 and ADSL circuits to provide a single appliance solution for routing, security and VPN site-to-site or remote access.

The SSG 5 offers the same basic performance as the SSG 20 but with seven (7) 10/100 Fast Ethernet interfaces and options for an integrated V.92 dial backup modem or an ISDN BRI dial backup.  The limited "port mode" feature of the 5GT has been replaced by an increased number of security zones (ten on both models) and the flexibility of user defined Bridge Groups -- one or more physical interfaces in the same broadcast domain, forming a logical transparent bridge.

Both models feature 160 Mbps firewall and 40 Mbps VPN performance, 4000 concurrent sessions, 25 VPN tunnels, and support ten Security Zones and ten VLANs.  Both models also offer full OSPF, BGP and RIP dynamic routing support.  The SSG 20 features a number of WAN encapsulation protocols including Frame Relay, multilink FR, PPP, multilink PPP and HDLC.

UTM security features include

  • Deep Inspection (DI)

  • antivirus based on the Kaspersky engine that includes Anti-Phishing, Anti-Spyware, and Anti-Adware protection to stop viruses, Trojans and other malware

  • Anti-Spam via the Symantec Brightmail engine

  • Web filtering (URL content filtering) using SurfControl to block access to known malicious sites or inappropriate web content

The new hardware platforms run ScreenOS 5.4 code initially.
